Step 10 of 11 — Go-to-Market Test
Measuring real buying intent before launch
A waitlist with 500 signups is nothing. A waitlist with 500 signups where 30 people DM-ed you asking "can I pay now" is everything. GTM Signal measures the kind of intent that predicts real sales.
Why this matters
Signups are polite. DMs asking to pay early are not. Before you spend on a launch campaign, you want to know: when I show my product to strangers in a real channel — cold outreach, community post, or landing page — do they engage, or do they scroll past? GTM Signal gives you that answer before you bet money. If 3 methods give you near-zero signal, launch will too.
What you'll do in this step
- Run up to 3 GTM methods side by side: cold outreach, community post, and landing-page waitlist.
- For each, measure response count, best-performing message, and which channel (e.g., which college WhatsApp group or Reddit community) converted.
- Record a total response count across all methods — that's your signal strength score.
- Use AI to generate initial outreach messages and landing-page copy based on your idea + personas.
A real example
Ananya tests 3 channels over 1 week to measure real intent before launching her paid offering.
Method 1 — Cold outreach (LinkedIn DMs)
She DMs 40 Tier-2 BCom students directly with a short message offering a free first call. 11 responses, 4 booked calls, 1 paid for additional sessions. Best-performing message: "Hey! I noticed you're applying to internships — I'm helping 10 Tier-2 students prep their Nykaa/boAt applications this week, free. Interested?"
Method 2 — Community post (college WhatsApp groups)
Posts the same offer in 5 Jaipur + Nagpur college WhatsApp groups (roughly 600 students). 23 direct responses, 9 DMs back, 2 of those asked "can I pay for more sessions?" Best group: a Jaipur BCom Students group (12 of 23 responses).
Method 3 — Landing-page waitlist
Posts a simple 1-pager with 'Join waitlist' form. 18 signups in the week, 0 DMs, 0 questions. Plenty of signups, but zero deeper intent. Lowest-quality signal of the three.
What the data tells Ananya
Direct outreach and community posts give real intent. Landing pages attract curious-but-not-buying. She should launch through the community channel, not paid ads to a landing page. That's the kind of insight GTM Signal surfaces before you spend on launch.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating signups as buying intent — most signups never convert.
- Running only one method — you won't know if "no signal" is the product or the channel.
- Optimising for volume instead of quality — 20 engaged DMs beat 500 indifferent signups every time.
How Margawise helps
- AI drafts your cold outreach messages and landing-page copy from your idea + personas + problems.
- You track response count, best message, and best channel per method — so you know which to double down on.
- Signal strength score combines all 3 methods into one comparable number.
- This step is skippable if you've already validated via interviews + experiments — it's most valuable when you need pre-launch confidence.
